The end for Nicola Sturgeon?

Nicola Sturgeon 2020

I am surprised Nicola Sturgeon, the Scottish Nationalist Party leader and First Minister of Scotland, has lasted for so long.  In 2016 I wrote about her horoscope, and I took the view that her career was coming to a close.  The basis for my analysis was her Vedic horoscope.  She was born on July 19 1970, at 3.16 pm in Irvine, Scotland.  Here’s her chart:

If you’re not used to Vedic astrology, the chart may be difficult to read. The numbers relate to the sidereal signs, and the houses run anti-clockwise from the Ascendant.  One of the key things to note is that she has Saturn in sidereal Aries in the Seventh House.  Although Saturn in the Seventh is seen as having dik bala, or directional strength, it is in Aries, the sign of its fall.  It is also worth noting that Saturn makes a full aspect to Sturgeon’s Moon in sideral Capricon, because Saturn aspects the tenth sign from itself.

We can see Saturn an an accident waiting to happen.  The moment it manifests, Nicola Sturgeon is in trouble.  These are her current dasas and sub-dasas:

Sturgeon dasas

Her Saturn dasa started on September 14 2018, if one takes a 365.25 day year.  The previous 16 years, from September 14 2002, were covered by Jupiter.  Her Jupiter is fortunate, being in the First House, but with the switch to the Saturn dasa one would expect things to deteriorate.  Clearly this is not what happened.  She maintained her position as First Minister of Scotland, and her party, the SNP, did very well in the December 12 2019 General Election.

So how does one explain Nicola Sturgeon’s continued success?  One might argue that things are not going well.  As a government, the SNP is racking up debt, and schools in Scotland are falling down international league tables in terms of reading, maths and science.  There is also a view that the effects of a new dasa don’t fully manifest until the start of the second sub-dasa, which in Nicola Sturgeon’s case is the Mercury sub-dasa of Saturn, which starts on September 17 2021.  Finally, we have to consider the possibility that Nicola Sturgeon is a creature of higher, collective forces, which can over-ride her horoscope, at least in the short term.

However, I do think that Nicola Sturgeon’s luck is running out.  Not only is she in her Saturn dasa, but she has sade sati.  This represents over seven years of bad luck, at least theoretically.  This condition is not unusual, and it happens when Saturn is transitting the sidereal Moon sign, and the two signs either side.  Sturgeon’s second cycle sade sati dates are as follows:

Sadhesati for Nicola Sturgeon

The broad period from January 2017 though to March 2025 is covered by sade sati.  Yet the problem is at its maximum when Saturn is in sidereal Capriorn, from January 24 2020 through to January 17 2023.  Not only is Saturn in the same sign as the Moon, but it is opposition her Sun, Mercury and Mars in Cancer.

And already, some cracks are forming.  Last Autumn the SNP made the mistake of supporting Boris Johnson’s call for an election.  While this election allowed the SNP to increase its number of MPs, it gave Boris a massive victory, which allowed him to push through Brexit.  Furthermore, on election night, as the results started coming in, Nicola Sturgeon had a moment of utter hubris.  You can see the picture:

Sturgeon celebrating

She was celebrating the fact the Jo Swinson, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, had lost her seat to an SNP challenger.  Sturgeon’s reaction struck me as not just exubriant, but also crude.  Nicola knew she was on live TV, but she just couldn’t help herself.  People who behave like this in public are  courting bad luck, especially if their astrological trends are moving from bad to worse.

January 24 2020 was the date when Saturn moved into sideral Capricorn.  Soon after, on February 6, Scotland’s Finance Minister, Derek Mackay, resigned.  This happened because it was revealed that he had been sending inappropriate messages to a 16-year old boy.  Mackay’s resignation was a blow to Sturgeon, not least because he was touted as her potential successor as SNP leader.  But Derek Mackay’s resignation may only be the entrée.  Alex Salmond, Nicola Surgeon’s predecessor as SNP leader, goes to court next month, charged with a number of sexual offences.  It is unlikely to be good publicity for the SNP and its leader.

When you  become a senior politician, the person and the collective get mixed up.  To an extent your destiny becomes tied with the wider whole.  Scotland and the SNP’s future is linked up with Nicola Sturgeon’s horoscope, and the problems that she personally has with Saturn are likely to be projected onto her party and her country.  If you’re a Scottish Nationalist and you believe in astrology, you would want her to resign her political positions as soon as possible.

Ok we get it you don’t like Nicola Sturgeon or in fact Scotland becoming independent. Nicola Sturgeon is the leader of the SNP (one person – and that can change), however a majority of sovereign Scots now want independence and that’s what matters.

The situation differs in Scotland in comparison to England. The Scottish people are sovereign whereas the Crown in Parliament is sovereign in England, not the people. Queen Elizabeth 11 is Queen of England but of not Scotland (in fact we never had a Queen Elizabeth 1). She is Queen of Scots and can be overthrown by a majority of such sovereign Scots.

You’ll also have to start doing your homework. The SNP can’t ”rack up debt” as until very recently they weren’t allowed to borrow at all (and now very little), as Westminster that still has 85% of power over Scotland. Westminster however has racked up trillions of debt for its many English infrastructure projects and Scotland is hit with a 9% bill.

The Scottish educational system is still superior to that of England. Don’t just rely on the PISA results which have been denounced by hundreds of experts. The Scottish NHS and Social Care system puts England’s to shame and so we could go on.

What about just looking at the Scottish chart and forget about individuals?

I am sure that the Scotland chart is important, but right now Nicola Sturgeon is the First Minister. Therefore her chart and Scotland’s destiny are tightly entwined. If Nicola Sturgeon left office, then her chart would be irrelevant. Astrology aside, I absolutely understand why Scotland wants to be independent, which is why I don’t understand why the SNP want to remain in the EU. I’m reminded of a conversation I had long ago in Kashmir. The Kashmiri I was talking to spoke fondly of Harold Laski, and strangely, he had a certain nostalgia for British rule. That was because, from his perspective, British rule was better than Indian rule – rule from afar was better from rule by your neighbour. By the way, independence is only going to work from a rightwing, low taxation, business friendly perspective. That’s not something that the current SNP can provide.

I also want an independent Scotland and to remain in the EU because the EU does not affect ‘how’ we vote in Scotland, but the union does. Our majority vote is almost always overuled in Scotland. This is glibly explained as being due to the difference in population (Scotland has only 5 million population), yet the UK is supposed to be a union of 4 nations so if there were true mutual respect and consideration Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales wishes, as voted for democratically, would be aired and accounted for. Now, Scotland rarely votes conservative so if England chooses conservative surely by now Westminster would see that they are heading for trouble if they keep imposing conservative goevernments on Scots? I doubt it is the ‘higher’ powers that are keeping her in power, but the fact that she represents the only hope of many (at least around half the Scottish population) wanting indepence. The EU on the other hand has introduced at least as many good things as not so good AND we, the member states are allowed to implement those directives as they see fit. I can’t see Westminster doing that – ultimately Scotland is a colony of England. Hopefully you get this now.

Scotland will have much more self-determination as a member of the UK than as a member of the EU. But psychologically the power that is weaker in a relationship often prefers to be controlled by a third power. The problem at the moment is that both the Labour and Conservative parties are out of favour in Scotland, so Scots aren’t involved in central government. It is also interesting that the SNP have no real desire for independence – they just want to swap London for Brussells. For Scotland to make a success of independence, it needs to forget the EU, and approach the problem from the right rather than the left. In other words, taking a free market, low taxation approach. Unfortunately the SNP is a party of the globalist left, and its chances of delivering prosperous independence to Scotland are very low. There is also the assumption that the EU is still around in its current form in the medium to long term.

  • Margaret February 17, 2020, 3:24 am

The current SNP government has no control over 70% of taxation policy. It doesn’t have control over employment law, energy (oil, gas, electricity, renewables), broadcasting and so on and it’s still fairing better than England. Let’s see what it can do with 100% control over all powers. What it can provide then.

As to remaining in the EU in comparison to the UK? What power does Scotland have in actually leaving the UK? Zilch in comparison to the UK encountering no problems in leaving the EU other than those that the UK has created. In other words Westminster rule is totally undemocratic. And do you really think that the EU could / would force Scotland to continue to house nuclear weapons that they don’t want, be the nuclear / chemical dumping ground for England and send Scottish troups to fight in illegal wars? Scotland would also have a say at the EU top table (and the ability to veto) akin to other smaller countries in the EU, such as Ireland. It would also have access to the biggest trading market in the world. The one that it’s being dragged out of right now against it’s wishes.

Scotland has also been robbed blind by England for decades now with 5 million Scots supporting 55 million people in rUK. Check out the McCrone report, Stolen Seas and Jim Rodgers Scotlands oil on YouTube to name but a few sources.

British rule was better than Indian rule? Forget about asking one individual from Kashmir. Try asking numerous people from India and Pakistan and I reckon that you’ll hear a whole different story. Westminster rule resulted in one of the richest countries in the world being left totally impoverished with millions dying and at each other’s throats due to decisions/action taken in the 1940’s. Just as their “dividing lines” have left countries in the Middle East, Israel/Palestine and Ireland, to name but a few, at loggerheads even now with each other.

What about putting Nicola Sturgeon to one side and taking a look at the Scottish chart to determine when Scotland will become an Independent country?

Surely Saturn, for Nicola Sturgeon, is a temporal benefic? It rules her 4th and 5th house. Sitting in the 7th house, it aspects her 1st house which means the 5th Lord aspects the 1st House. Would this not make her Saturn dasa a period of good luck?

    • Archie Dunlop August 18, 2020, 8:31 pm

I think you might have a point. Certainly Nicola Sturgeon has gone on far longer than I expected. Saturn in Aries is certainly not good, but as you say, it rules fortunate signs, and had dik bala, by virtue of being in the Seventh.

  • Allan November 19, 2020, 12:15 am

Hello, I read your comment/prediction about Nicola Sturgeon with great interest. I was a SNP voter and thought SNP/NS would be Scotland’s saviour but when I have been observing the way she has been handling covid-19, I have changed my mind and my perspective on her has been changed drastically. I think she is a control freak and she is behaving like a dictator. Of course, we need to control the virus but she has been so political and manipulative, using covid-19 as her weapon to control Scottish people. Scots are getting really frustrated with her. She is so obsessed with control & power. When she has created the travel ban law, it has been made WITHOUT the parliament’s authority. Some MSPs are angry with her about this. It is so undemocratic. The police said they won’t enforce unless it is the last resort. Would you see the end for Nicola Sturgeon? I am so tired, sick and frustrated with her daily announcements and they are so confusing. Ex SNP voter.

    • Archie Dunlop November 19, 2020, 12:37 am

I have to say that so far I have been wrong about her, in the sense that she is still very much in control. On paper she is going through a difficult period of life, but so far it is not manifesting as expected. I probably need to do an update on her chart. Yet Saturn is going to cause her trouble, and I think 2020 could be a very difficult year for her. And perhaps the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction on December 21 will signal the end of her era.

    • Ronny November 26, 2020, 8:18 am

“Scots are getting really frustrated with her” you made that up – she is, in fact, extremely popular as any casual look at a poll will show. She is doing a brilliant job in the most trying of circumstances and with one hand tied behind her back so why don’t you just stop watching her and tune in elsewhere since NS will be around for a long time yet.

  • Margaret December 15, 2020, 3:12 am

Meanwhile when all is said and done Nicola Sturgeon has been voted one of the most successful leaders in the world, in the top five of 200 countries (New Zealand, India, Germany, Canada and Scotland), to have dealt successfully with Covid 19. And by the way the other four are leaders of independent countries. Nicola Sturgeon is NOT the leader of an Independent country at all. Just the leader of one of the last countries in the world to be repressed by England and treated like a colony of the old dead and gone … nearly … British Empire. And don’t we Scots know it.

A control freak? A dictator? Someone is REALLY pushing the envelope here. The SNP is the most democratic political party in the UK and Westminster in fact set up a totally different voting system in Scotland to that of the U.K. / England to ensure that the SNP would never get a majority. Get into power. No Law is made in Scotland without Parliaments backing and that by the way means three out of five parties sitting there that support English rule.

As to one of your last poster’s comments on here about Covid 19. Nicola Sturgeon has in fact saved thousands of lives in Scotland in relation to Covid 19 in comparison to England and that’s been against all odds. Hands bound behind her back, 99% of the media against her, 99% of the Unions against her and the might of the Westminster network overall against her. Add to that the extremely lucrative Scottish resources that have been keeping England afloat for decades now going to the English Treasury with Scotland
getting sweety money in return and no means of borrowing like England due to London saying no way to the Scots. Get the picture?

  • Margaret December 15, 2020, 3:23 am

Oh and just to add to Allan’s prior comment about “frustrated Scots”. Around 58% of Scots now support Independence and a second campaign hasn’t got off of the ground due to Covid 19. Sounds to me that the Scots are frustrated with Westminter and the “Allan’s” of the world and not Nicola Sturgeon at all.

  • Margaret December 15, 2020, 3:56 am

And Archie I’m interested in astrology but can’t see anything significant (powerfull) at all about Nicola Sturgeon’s chart other than that her natal planets aspect the planets of the 1005 Scottish chart. So what’s showing up in her chart to indicate that she’s one of the greatest leaders and most notable political women of her time? Her political party has been in power for 13 years now, against ALL odds, and she has the greatest vote share of any political leader in Europe. So what’s going on? How can astrology account for this “astrological inigma?”

    • Archie Dunlop December 15, 2020, 5:00 am

Margaret, on a really basic and trivial level, I like the fact that she is a Cancerian. Scotland is traditionally a Cancerian country, and I kind of regard spiders as Cancerian animals, wanting to protect themselves in their webs. A spider was important to Robert the Bruce, who was a Cancerian, and the Battle of Banockburn was fought when the Sun was in Cancer. So the sign Cancer resonates with Scotland on many levels. As far as Nicola Sturgeon’s Western chart is concerned, there is something very assertive about it. Mars is close to the top of the chart in Leo, and square her Sun-Moon midpoint. I suppose if you look at her Vedic chart, she has Jupiter in the First House, and the Sun, Mercury and Mars in the Tenth House. That is a powerful signature of drive and ambition. For the moment I am not going to make any predictions on her future, as my last one didn’t work out. However, politicians very often have prolonged runs of luck, that suddenly fade. Or as Enoch Powell put it, “All political lives, unless they are cut off in midstream at a happy juncture, end in failure, because that is the nature of politics and of human affairs”. I suspect that the key to Sturgeon’s success or failure is Europe. For Scottish independence to work, the EU has to be prosperous and united. Remainers tend focus on everything wrong with England and the Union, without considering the complexity of Europe, and its political and economic vulnerabilities. I think it very likely that post-COVID the world has an economic melt-down. The UK will of course get hit, but it could be worse for Europe. At least the UK has control of its currency! And the UK, compared with many parts of Europe, has a history of political stability, even when the economy had gone down the drain.

  • Margaret December 22, 2020, 9:14 pm

Thanks for your reply Archie and I can see why you think that joining the EU may not be the best route to take, however I reckon that following Independence the Scots will vote in another referendum to establish if they should apply to join or not. Nicola Sturgeon has also mentioned pursuing membership of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) before achieving full EU membership (if that’s what the Scots want).

Now take a look at Ireland (now Independent) a country that has few lucrative natural resources compared to Scotland. It’s been ranked second in the world for quality of life, according to a new study from the United Nations. Norway tops the list.

    http://www.irishpost.com/news/ireland-has-second-highest-quality-of-life-in-the-world-according-to-un-report-200228?utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=article&utm_medium=web

Scotland could be holding that second place and in fact could be sitting at the top of that list if Westminster hadn’t hidden Scotland’s true wealth and then continued to squander (still squandering it) it on wars and infrastructure in the South of England. Next up Westminster is commandeering Scotland’s renewable energy, said to be worth more than the oil, and are also after our water. Want to privatise that. Scotland in the Union is England’s cash cow.
