If you don’t know, America is about to run out of money. This is because the country’s debt ceiling has been reached, and the Republican-controlled House of Representatives is unwilling to raise this ceiling. As a result there are frantic negotiations to reach a compromise, and there’s only a matter of days to sort things out.
From a personality point of view, the struggle seems to have focused around two individuals. The President, Barack Obama, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, John Boehner.
This evening I watched Obama address the nation about the crisis, and I also watched Boehner give his rebuttal. My naive reaction was that Obama was acting like a mature statesman, while Boehner was going for partisan point-scoring, that seemed rather inappropriate, given the graveness of the situation.
As I’ve already written loads of stuff about Barack Obama’s horoscope, in this article I’ll focus entirely on John Boehner.
He’s a Scorpio, born on November 17 1949. On the face of it, Scorpio is one of the most stubborn signs of the Zodiac, and they’re not the kind of people you associate with compromise. Furthermore, some Scorpios have a destructive streak, and I can imagine a Scorpio wrecking his country’s economy to prove a point.
Scorpios can also be good generals and strategists, so it’s possible that Boehner is considering the long-term political impact on Obama and the Democrats if there’s no deal and the US ends up defaulting on its debt repayments. However looking at Boehner’s horoscope, I’m not sure that that’s what it’s all about.
It seems to me that John Boehner is trying to compromise, but he is focusing on his party rather than his country. He has the Moon in Libra. The Moon is an important point in the horoscope, and in the sign Libra it instinctively wants to make people happy. Furthermore, his Moon is conjunct both Neptune and the South Node.
We think of John Boehner as being a leader – he is, after all, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and is therefore one of the most powerful people in the country. In fact, if Barack Obama and Joe Biden were simultaneously killed, he would become US President.
Yet in reality he doesn’t seem to be showing responsible leadership. His line of least resistance, as symbolised by the conjunction between the Moon, Neptune and the South Node, is probably an over-willingness to pander to the various groups that make up his party, and most importantly he is not standing up to the new members of the House, who in many cases are Tea Party firebrands. What Boehner should be doing is getting into his North Node in Aries, and leading his fellow Republicans rather than just accommodating their whims.
The Moon in Libra can also be associated with politics. After all, Libra is a very sociable sign, and it enjoys the kind of interaction that is the bread and butter of political life. However the conjunction with Neptune, the planet of delusion, might create a fog, where Boehner can’t see the wood for the trees. Politics is not just about politics, it’s about making the world a better place, or at least it should be.
We also have to ask what John Boehner really stands for. Being a Scorpio he will of course have strong feelings, and he’ll passionately care about his family and close friends. However his overall horoscope suggests that he is a mirror to wider political currents, and he is unlikely to be someone who has great ideas of his own. So when he stood up before the country, making his rebuttal to Obama, he was a reflection of the Republican Party in Congress, and probably not much else.
As to the future, I don’t have John Boehner’s time of birth, but from the perspective of Indian astrology he is now in a Sadhesati period, when Saturn is close to the Moon. In most cases it’s not very fortunate, and I would guess that once the crisis is over his political star will start to wain.
