OK, you’ve probably never heard of Wayne Rooney. At least if you’re American and you’re not interested in soccer. However in the United Kingdom his name is massive. A player for Manchester United, he’s regarded as one of the world’s most talented footballers.
Unfortunately it’s his personal life, not his professional life, which is currently getting most of the attention. The tabloid press has been full of stories about his association with a prostitute, a liaison that according to some sources was under way while his wife Coleen was pregnant.
I don’t know much about Wayne Rooney, but I would have never guessed that he was a Scorpio, born on October 24 1985. I would have instead gone for an Earth sign, probably Taurus.
Scorpio is a Water sign, and aside from the Sun, he has Mercury, Saturn and Pluto positioned here. He also has the Moon in Pisces, which is another Water sign.
This suggests that Wayne Rooney is someone with powerful emotions, and one of the reasons he is such a good footballer is that he has an emotional sensitivity to what’s happening on the pitch. So by following his heart he gets to score the goals.
Yet Water can be difficult to contain, especially when it comes to relationships. When people who have a lot of Water in their horoscopes get a feeling about something or somebody, they can find it difficult to restrain themselves.
Wayne Rooney’s wife is an Aries, and in sun-sign astrology Aries and Scorpio can be a tough combination. Aries is a sign that’s open and up-front, that expresses its opinions without hesitation, while Scorpio tends to be a lot more reticent. Yet both signs are ruled by the planet Mars, so in certain cases it can be a compulsive and passionate combination.
Going back to Wayne Rooney’s horoscope, he has a wide conjunction between Venus and Mars. His Venus is at around 10 Libra, his Mars at 28 Virgo – so they’re twelve degrees apart. Normally I would regard this conjunction as being too weak to bother with, but in 2010 Saturn is aspecting both planets.
Saturn was conjuncting Wayne Rooney’s Mars in June and early July, just as the World Cup in South Africa was getting under way, and of course he was an integral part of the England team. England’s performance was lacklustre, and Wayne Rooney’s footballing skills were unable to prevent the team from having an early exit.
Later in the year, in October, Saturn will be conjuncting his Venus. This conjunction could be a big deal. Venus is arguably the strongest planet in his horoscope, and it’s also the planet of love. So at this stage, he might have to ask himself some big questions, and some of these questions might relate to his marriage.
Interestingly, the latest allegations about Wayne Rooney’s contacts with a prostitute came out when Saturn was almost exactly halfway between the Venus and Mars aspects – in the jargon, Saturn was transiting Wayne Rooney’s Venus-Mars midpoint.
In astrology the Venus-Mars pairing is about sex, and Saturn is the planet of responsibility and Karma. So arguably Wayne Rooney is having to face the consequences of his sexual exploits.
Finally, there’s a question of advice.
Wayne Rooney might not have his Sun in Taurus, but he has the North Node of the Moon in this sign. Astrologers regard the North Node as pointing to the future. It’s the place we should be going to, it’s the lifestyle we should be aspiring to. Taurus is a sign that’s very grounded, that honours its commitments and promises. So Wayne Rooney needs to strip away the glitz and glamour of his millionaire existence, and start coming down to earth. He also needs to appreciate the strength and stability that his family life can offer him – before it’s too late.
