September is a scary month, when we become aware of how fast time is travelling. One reason for this might be childhood associations with the ending of the Summer holiday, and the beginning of a new academic year – we’ve moved up a year, and perhaps we’ve moved to a new school, or started a new academic course. One year moves into another, growth becomes decline, and before we know it we’re overwhelmed by the stench of rotting memories.
On a more scientific level, we need to consider the speed at which the hours of daylight are shrinking, if we’re in the Northern Hemisphere.
To illustrate this, if you’re in London the Sun will set at approximately 9.20 pm local time on June 20, and at 9.21 pm on June 27. So over the course of a week there’s hardly any difference. Move forward a couple of months, and on August 29 the Sun will set at 7.54 pm, and on September 5 it will set fifteen minutes earlier, at 7.39 pm.
At the same time, the Sun will rise at 6.07 on August 29 and on September 5 at 6.19. So in a week you will have lost nearly half an hour of daylight. That’s a big deal, especially for the body clock. The decline is fast, and for some of us the feelings of seasonal tristesse might be unavoidable.
And if I carry on in this vein I’ll lose you to my more cheerful and upbeat competitors. Though bear in mind, as my therapist once said, people who are happy all the time are sick.
Anyway, I’ll cut to the chase, and give you my star sign forecasts, for the week starting on Monday August 30:
Aries You’ve got something to say, but can you say it? If you talk first and think later you’re unlikely to make much of an impact. You need to plan your next move, and you should consider the possibility that you need to do a lot more research.
Taurus You want to reach out, and start experiencing a new reality. But you also realise that if you move too far from your home base you could quickly become lost. You must move one step at a time, and you must be aware of your physical and psychological limits.
Gemini Just because you’re cleverer than other people doesn’t mean that you have to show off. It also doesn’t mean that you have to be lazy. In a competitive situation your assumption of victory could cost you the game.
Cancer Just because September has arrived doesn’t mean that you have to panic. In the first instance you can relax, and familiarise yourself with the changing vibes. A bit of isolation could be good for you, though from Friday onwards there’ll be people to meet.
Leo Something doesn’t add up, and however hard you try, you can’t make sense of the situation. Some things in life just aren’t logical, and you need to accept things as they are. Your friends can be useful.
Virgo You can’t get on with everyone, and this week you’ll be very conscious of the differences between yourself and other people. If you’re smart you’ll realise that life isn’t a popularity contest and that right now it’s OK to put your own interests first.
Libra You’re getting closer and closer to something very special, but the time for action hasn’t yet arrived. You have to do a lot more thinking, and perhaps some studying and reading as well. Over the weekend career matters require your attention.
Scorpio It’s a week when you need to come out of your shell, and show the world what you can do. You might have your doubts, but once you start getting favourable feedback from friends and colleagues there’ll be no stopping you.
Sagittarius There are several things that need dealing with and they probably won’t wait. Perhaps you’ve recently made a promise, which now has to be honoured? What pleases one person annoys another.
Capricorn This week you must pay careful attention to your health, and your lifestyle should be as clean and wholesome as possible. If you want someone to do something for you, then your instructions have to be crystal clear.
Aquarius You’re able to do something that’s very clever, that catches people by surprise. But it’s a nice surprise! Once everyone realises what you’re capable of doing they’ll give you further opportunities to prove yourself.
Pisces You don’t like being alone, but you also realise that other people can be a real pain. So it’s important that you pick and choose. The right person can be blissful, the wrong person can drag you down, into the muddy depths. At the end of the week steer clear of arguments.
Whatever your star sign, have a great week and don’t let the seasonal blues get you down!
