Astrological Roundup: August 2 through to August 8

Assessment of last week’s events
Chelsea Clinton’s wedding
Next week’s forecasts, for each of the twelve signs

I’m writing this on Saturday August 31.  Earlier today there was a conjunction between Mars and Saturn, and one of the most dangerous weeks of the year is drawing to a close.

It looks like there weren’t any major disasters, though I think you’ll agree that it was a fairly tense week.  We had a plane crash in Pakistan, a serious forest fire in Russia, and Israel bombing Gaza, in retaliation for a rocket attack on Ashkelon.  There were also major floods in Pakistan, and earthquakes in Iran.

However I am not holding up any of these events as evidence that my forecast was correct.  These events weren’t sufficiently unusual.  By the same token, I am not saying that I was wrong – I was giving a warning, that in certain cases might have been appropriate.

Though for some people the big event was Chelsea Clinton’s wedding to Marc Mezvinsky today, July 31.  She’s a Pisces, he’s a Sagittarian, and from a star sign point of view that’s a so-so pairing.  Both of them have a great need for variety, and for the marriage to really work they’ll have to have a common cause to rally around.  This is because both Sagittarius and Pisces are ruled by Jupiter, a planet that’s connected with religion, politics and new horizons.

As far as the wedding day is concerned, it’s not what I would have chosen.  They’re getting married on the same day as a Mars-Saturn conjunction, and this conjunction is often connected with frustration and anger.  It’s then possible that the happy couple will feel that they’re holding each other back, and finding the common cause I was just talking about could be hard work.  Also, the Moon is void of course in Aries – in other words, at the time of the wedding the Moon has made its last major aspect to a traditional planet before leaving the sign.  It’s then possible, once the wedding’s over and the dust has settled, that there’s a feeling of ‘now what?

Yet this void Moon could have been avoided, if the wedding had been held early on Saturday.  To be precise, it should have been held before 9.13 am, New York time.  Too early for the guests?  Too bad!

As far as the week ahead is concerned, Tuesday and Wednesday could be pretty hectic.  Jupiter is making a 90-degree aspect to Pluto, and Mars is aspecting both these planets.  Many of us are going to feel a great need to improve ourselves and we won’t be happy with second best.  In the process we might be ruthless – regarding the means as justifying the end.  However if we push things too far, we could get ourselves into trouble.  And even if we’re on best behaviour, there could be a lot of pressure, and reasonable force could become excessive force very quickly.

It’s now time to do my quick assessment of the fortunes of the twelve signs, for the week starting on Monday August 2.

Aries Powerful forces are at work.  You think you can handle them, but maybe you can’t – in which case you need to get outside assistance.  A bit of trust can go a long way.

Taurus Partners and lovers are under pressure.  They find it difficult to compromise, and in a worst case scenario they could break rather than bend.  Your natural stubborness won’t help.

Gemini
During the first half of the week, especially on Monday and Tuesday, it might be best to keep a low profile.  But from Wednesday onwards your brain clicks into gear and your popularity rating starts to soar.

Cancer
Right now you’re very ambitious, and you want to make fast progress.  However things are more complicated than they seem and you have to take into account other people and their weird desires.  Your home and family could be annoying.

Leo
You’ve got big plans and you’re not in the mood for modesty.  However small details have to be taken care of, and it’s going to take longer than expected.  If you’re travelling without purpose then you’ll soon realise that the real purpose is getting home, with as little aggravation as possible.

Virgo Your career is not something that can be avoided, and if you use all the resources at your disposal you can achieve something of lasting value.  Someone’s angry about money, but with the right words you can calm them down.

Libra
Relationships could be stormy, especially at the beginning of the week.  Partners and lovers will be very clear about their needs, but you yourself will insist on getting heard.  Someone has to be reasonable, otherwise there’ll be trouble.

Scorpio Everything seems larger than life, and what’s actually very trivial could seem vitally important.  It’s therefore essential that you have a sense of proportion.  If you’re doing sports or vigorous exercise, have an awareness of your limits.

Sagittarius
Mars and Pluto aspect Jupiter, your ruling planet.  You’ve got big ambitions and you don’t want to wait for anyone.  However things aren’t as stable as they seem, and if you’re not careful you could get yourself into a highly charged situation, that’s difficult to exit.

Capricorn
You’re able to create some big transformations, which could pave the way for growth and development.  However in the process something might have to go – a part of your existing lifestyle which no longer serves any useful purpose.

Aquarius
At the beginning of the week there’s work to be done, probably relating to your home.  Perhaps something’s a mess, and it needs to be cleared up?  Your financial affairs need careful examination – there’s a way of making more money, but in the past it had seemed like too much effort.

Pisces
Financial matters can’t be ignored.  You know that money’s important, and in your heart of hearts you’re not entirely happy with your financial situation.  Yet your hopes for the future aren’t as crazy as you think they are.

Oh dear, poor Chelsea! She has had enough stress and sorrow in her life, we are all hoping for a happy ever after future for her. Such a shame people don’t have the sense to check out the aspects for the day they are getting married.

Even if they are not totally convinced about astrology, what have they got to lose?

Yes, Pisces/Sagg is not the greatest “love’ combo, but what about their moon signs? & their rising signs? & the rest of their horoscopes? to be fair, you should have shown us both charts…..and not gone just by sunsigns!! that’s what gives astrology skeptics more ammo against astrology!! Just sayin’……..

Ben,
I wasn’t writing an article about Chelsea Clinton per se, so my coverage was brief – and I didn’t have a chance to look at their horoscopes in detail. Also, I wouldn’t be completely dismissive of star sign compatibility. It’s just one system, with its strengths and weaknesses. Likewise with Western ’synastry’, which itself is a rather weird system, where ironically the less synastry two people have, the better the chances of a relationship lasting long-term. I rather like the Indian apporach, where you just plug two charts into a computer and get a number. However the wedding chart is perhaps the key thing to look at, and that’s something I did comment on.

Angela,

Do educated Democrats believe in astrology? Even if they did, they would have had to have fitted the wedding into their scheduling. Still, a bad wedding chart isn’t necessarily the end of the world, and I’ve certainly seen worse.

Archie,
I am grateful that you wrote a commentary for last week, which was one of my most challenging weeks. A 98-year old friend died on Monday, then my beloved diabetic cat became very weak on Friday and wouldn’t eat. It turned out he had kidney failure, and I had to put him down on Saturday at 1:30PM. It was a bit of a shock, and the whole world felt strange because in Rhinebeck–the same town where my friend died earlier that week–Chelsea Clinton was getting married on one of the most beautiful days of the summer. So, thanks again for commenting on a period of time that felt so strange and harsh for me.

cappie4,

I’m glad what I wrote was some help, and I am very sorry about the deaths you experienced. It is true that Mars and Saturn as a pair are often connected with death, though I suppose some will feel it more than others.

Has anyone every thought of compatibility by looking in which signs are their respective Venus and Mars – Venus for the man and Mars for the woman – so for example, if the man has Venus in Pisces and the women has Mars in Cancer, there would be a compatiliby at the unconscious level – and we forget the unconscious too focussed are we on the outside personality (the Sun).

There is also True North and South Nodes to look at – for they reveal our destiny.
