It seems that Mel Gibson has got himself into trouble, by making insulting comments to his girlfriend, that were suggestive of racism. And it’s not the first time that he has had such problems. In 2006 he was arrested for driving under the influence, and he made anti-semitic comments to the arresting officer.
I’m not going to go into detail about what was said, because this website is not about celebrity gossip. What matters to me is why Mel Gibson has got himself into these situations, and one way of answering this question is to look at his horoscope.
Mel Gibson was born on January 3 1956, probably at 4.45 pm, in New York State. This makes him a Capricorn. Now you don’t normally associate Capricorns with making offensive remarks, especially if these remarks could damage their reputation.
However if Mel Gibson was indeed born at 4.45 pm, then he was born very close to sunset – in other words his Sun in Capricorn was on the Western horizon.
Sometimes people who are born at Sunset can blame other people when things go wrong, and they can see the world in a rather polarised way’. This was perhaps part of the impulse that drove Mel Gibson to say what he did. Yet that doesn’t really tell the whole story, and when looking at his horoscope the first planet I looked at was Mercury.
In astrology Mercury is the planet of communication, and it gives an indication about how we express ourselves.
Mel Gibson’s Mercury is in the last degree of Capricorn, which in itself doesn’t tell us much. But when you look at Mercury’s aspects, the picture becomes clearer.
His Mercury is making an 180 degree aspect to Uranus, which is right at the beginning of Leo. Uranus is an explosive and unpredictable energy, so Mel Gibson is capable of saying things on the spur of the moment, without properly thinking them through.
Furthermore, his Mercury is making a close 90-degree aspect to Neptune in very early Scorpio. Neptune is the planet of alcohol, and he therefore needs to be very careful what he says if he’s under the influence. In other words, alcohol can encourage him to say things that he later regrets.
Looking at Mel Gibson’s horoscope from the perspective of Indian astrology, he has the Moon in Virgo, and right now, using the Eastern Zodiac, Saturn is passing through this sign. This means he’s right in the middle of ’sadhesati’, a seven year period of life that can be very challenging. During this seven year period he must make a special effort to eat healthily, and to avoid alcohol. Furthermore he must be very restrained in his speech, because the frustrations of Saturn might encourage him to loose off with bad language.
There are ways of remedying sadhesati, but they’re wedded to the Hindu religion, and would almost certainly be incompatible with Mel Gibson’s devout Christianity. Nonetheless, he might benefit by being super-virtuous on Mondays, because Monday is the day of the Moon. That means steering clear of alcohol, and not doing anything to excess. If he can also devout several hours every Mondays to charitable activity, so much the better.
