The Swearing-in of Julia Gillard

by Archie Dunlop on July 1, 2010

Julia Gillard is the new Prime Minister of Australia, and she is exceptional for being the first woman to occupy this position.  I have already written an article about her and her predecessor, Kevin Rudd, and I thought that I would look at the horoscope for her official swearing-in, at 1.03 pm on June 24.

The chart for the swearing-in of a prime minister or president can be very important.  It tells us what kind of experiences the new administration will attract, and a good horoscope can give the incoming leader the best possible chance of being successful.

As far as Julia Gillard is concerned, I doubt very much whether she consulted an astrologer about her swearing-in.  She’s on record as saying that she doesn’t believe in God, so it’s a fair bet that she doesn’t believe in astrology either.

The swearing-in chart isn’t catastrophic, but it isn’t great.  The South Node of the Moon is close to the Midheaven, and in astrology the Midheaven is connected with government, while the South Node is often linked with a bad reputation.  Or to put it another way, Julia Gillard’s government won’t get much credit for its actions.

Cancer is the sign on the Midheaven, so the ruler of the Midheaven is the Moon, which is in Sagittarius, in the Second House.
The Second House is connected with money, so I suspect that financial and budgetary considerations will dominate the political landscape, and they could be the cause of some major arguments.  This is because the Moon is applying to a stressful, 90-degree aspect to Mars.

This Moon-Mars aspect might also hint at a certain amount of inflexibility on Julia Gillard’s part, as well as a reluctance to understand alternative viewpoints.  As the astrologer Guido Bonatus said, in the Thirteen Century, ‘A woman that has Mars with the Moon is right; I’ll warrant her’.

It’s a great shame that Julia Gillard didn’t consider astrology.  The Moon-Mars aspect, which is likely to cause so much damage, could have been avoided.  If the swearing-in had been postponed until the following day, the Moon would have been applying to a favourable aspect with Venus.  This aspect would have softened Julia Gillard’s image, and made it easier for her to connect with ordinary Australians.  An opportunity missed!
