Gemini Venus Williams crashes out of Wimbledon

by Archie Dunlop on June 30, 2010

The big news at Wimbledon is that Venus Williams, who is ranked number two, has been knocked out of Wimbledon, in the quarter finals.  Her opponent was Tsvetana Pironkova, from Bulgaria, ranked eighty places lower.

Venus Williams was born on June 17 1980.  Her horoscope indicates an incredible capacity for hard work, and she is someone who can push herself to the limit.  Yet there’s a possible danger of frustration, that her energies get directed into the wrong areas.  So it was very fortunate that her soul incarnated into a family where the father was a very ambitious tennis coach.

As far as the astrological specifics are concerned, Venus Williams has a Sun-Venus conjunction in Gemini, which is making a 90-degree aspect to a Mars-Saturn conjunction in Virgo.  You could possibly link Gemini with tennis – after all Gemini is a versatile sign, and tennis players have to run around all over the court.  However that’s not enough.  Tennis players also need discipline, and in Venus Williams’ case that comes from the Mars-Saturn conjunction.

Indeed it’s the Mars-Saturn conjunction that gives Venus Williams her drive, and her ability to keep pushing herself.  Also, this conjunction symbolises her father, and his influence on her.  Through her childhood, he was someone who kept challenging her.

Looking at her defeat at Wimbledon, one probably shouldn’t get too hung up on the precise day it happened.  Last year, 2009, Venus Williams had her Saturn Return.  This is when Saturn returns to the place it was when one was born, and it usually happens in one’s thirtieth year.  And in Venus Williams’ case, Saturn wasn’t just returning to its own position, it was also aspecting Mars, the Sun and Venus.  So the last year could, in some respects, have been difficult for Venus Williams, and even now, at the end of June 2010, the Saturn Return is still in operation.

By the way, Tsvetana Pironkova is a Virgo, born on September 13 1987.  She has Mars in Virgo, like Venus Williams, and this Mars is square Saturn in Sagittarius.  So the two women have certain things in common – for example they’re not satisfied with second best, and they both have an excellent sense of detail.

Finally, I want to quickly look at Venus Williams’ horoscope from the point of view of Indian astrology.

In Indian astrology she is currently going through a phase of life ruled by the Sun, and she’s been in this phase since April 2005.  The Sun is the strongest planet in her Indian horoscope, and it’s well placed in the Tenth House of career.  However since the Autumn of last year Saturn has been moving through her First House, where it’s casts a difficult aspect to her Sun.  As I result she’s not firing on all cylinders, and unless she remedies the situation, it may be difficult for her to return to her winning ways.

Under these circumstances I would suggest that for the rest of the Sun phase, which ends in April 2011, she makes a special effort to strengthen the Sun.  This shouldn’t be difficult.  The day of the week connected with the Sun is Sunday, and she should make this day special – which from a Christian point of view shouldn’t be difficult.  If she doesn’t already, she should always go to church (or some other religious meeting) on Sundays, do charitable works on this day, and perhaps pray and read the Bible.  Also she shouldn’t play tennis on Sundays.

So I believe that by respecting the Lord’s Day her tennis will improve, and I’m not saying that because I’m necessarily a Christian.  I’m saying it because it’s the right thing for her to do, from the perspective of Indian astrology, which is of course grounded in the Hindu religion.
