Australia gets a Libran, female Prime Minister

by Archie Dunlop on June 24, 2010

I know very little about Australian politics, so thank you Lana, for keeping me informed:

Poor Kevin Rudd just got ousted as our Prime Minister and I feel his pain.  He has a late degree Virgo sun so he is copping Saturn’s extra hard biff  (as am I) as it gets close to leaving our sign.  It was all so sudden and I feel quite sorry for him – but isn’t astrology great????

I read somewhere that Saturn always leaves a gift when it leaves – sure!!!!!

Kevin Rudd, the outgoing Australian Prime Minister, was indeed a Virgo, who was born on September 21 1957.  As well as the Sun, he has Mercury, Mars and Pluto in this sign.  This would make him conscientious and hard-working, and like many Virgos in politics, his main motivation is public service rather than personal ambition.

As Lana pointed out, Kevin Rudd is having Saturn problems.  He became Prime Minister on December 3 2007, as Saturn was establishing itself in Virgo.  To be precise, Saturn went into Virgo three months earlier, on September 2 2007.  Saturn will stay in Virgo, on and and off, until July 21 2010.

We could therefore have predicted, at the end of 2007, that Kevin Rudd’s time in office would be hard work, and there might not be a happy ending.

Talking a closer look at Kevin Rudd’s horoscope, and we notice that he has a conjunction between the Sun and Mars, at around 28 degrees Virgo.  These are two energetic, male planets, and clearly Kevin Rudd is able to fight for what he believes in.

As Saturn moved through the last degrees of Virgo, the power of this conjunction was weakened, and it became a liability rather than an asset.  Kevin Rudd could no long express himself, and in conflict situations he was likely to be a loser rather than a winner.

On May 31 2010 Saturn came to a standstill, at 27 degrees 50 minutes Virgo, exactly on Kevin Rudd’s Sun-Mars conjunction.  After that, it was only a matter of time before he lost office.

Yet he wasn’t defeated in an election.  He lost the support of his own party, and it was his deputy, Julia Gillard, that gave him the final push – she demanded that he submit himself to a leadership ballot, and at that stage he resigned.

Julia Gillard was born on September 29 1961, which makes her a Libran.  On this website I’ve talked at length about Librans and politics, and I take the view that there are two types of Libran politician, the nice and the tough.  Nice Librans are usually political failures, while the tough ones can be very successful.

I would assume that Julia Gillard is a tough Libran, particularly in light of the way she eased Kevin Rudd out of office.  And the fact that she is Australia’s first woman Prime Minister reminds us of Margaret Thatcher, who is also a Libran.

Margaret Thatcher was clearly a very successful politician, and she was helped by a strong horoscope – for example she had the Moon in Leo, conjunct Regulus, the Royal Star.  This was a configuration that she shared with Winston Churchill.

Unfortunately for Julia Gillard, her horoscope doesn’t stand out in the way Margaret Thatcher’s does.  Yes, she’s a bright woman, and with her Moon in Gemini she’s got a lot to say for herself.  But I can’t see her staying as Prime Minister for too long.  Once the novelty has worn off, the Australian people will regard her as being unexciting and perhaps even unappealing.

Going back to Lana’s comment, and it’s quite possible that Julia Gillard suffers a similar fate as her predecessor.  She has the Sun at six degrees Libra, and on July 21 Saturn moves into this sign.  A couple of months later Saturn will be hitting the exact degree of her Sun.  She’ll then start to realise that life at the top is very tough!
