Until very recently I’d never heard of Heidi Montag. Maybe you’ve never heard of her either? To fill you in, she’s twenty-three years old and apparently she’s a famous TV and music personality.
Heidi Montag made her name through a reality TV show, called The Hills, which followed the lives and dramas of a group of people living in Los Angeles.
Another reason why Heidi Montag is famous, is her use of plastic surgery. At the tender age of twenty-three you wouldn’t have thought that she needed surgical help, but it seems that for some years she has been visiting plastic surgeons. In 2007, when she was twenty, she had work done on her nose and breasts. And last year, she had ten procedures performed, in the course of a single day.
So what about her birth chart? Heidi Montag was born on September 15 1986, which makes her a Virgo. That’s hardly surprising. One of the stereotypical traits of Virgo is perfectionism. They want things to be as good as possible, and they often focus on their own bodies.
Heidi Montag, as a Virgo, would perhaps look at her body and focus on its supposed imperfections. And in extreme cases, Virgos can become obsessed with their bodies, and as a result they could be drawn towards plastic surgery.
Looking closer at Heidi Montag’s horoscope, she has a conjunction between Venus and Pluto, in the sign Scorpio. Venus is the planet of beauty, and Pluto is the planet of obsession. This conjunction makes her even more concerned about what she looks like, and the sign Scorpio could create an intense desire to look good, the kind of desire that doesn’t know when to stop.
From what I can gather, the date last year when she had her ten plastic surgery procedures was November 20. Which raises the question of what the planets were doing at the time of this major event.
As an astrologer, I am occasionally consulted about the timing of plastic surgery. My advice is generally very cautious – I don’t want to get blamed if things go wrong! Still, if someone insists on having plastic surgery, there is no doubt in my mind that some dates are better than others.
Looking at the position of the planets on November 20 2009, it seems unlikely that Heidi Montag consulted an astrologer.
As in her own chart, Venus, the planet of beauty, was in Scorpio. In astrology Venus doesn’t work very well in this sign – in the jargon, it’s ‘in its detriment’. Furthermore, Venus was making a stressful, 90-degree aspect to Mars, which in medical astrology is the planet ruling surgery.
However I am not saying that the chart of the surgery was disastrous. She hasn’t come to any lasting harm, though The Daily Mail suggested that Heidi Montag’s mother wasn’t exactly delighted with the results. They quote the mother as saying:
Why would you want to look like Barbie? To everybody else that saw you, you were Heidi. Nobody in the world could have looked like Heidi Montag.
And referring to what her daughter looked like before the surgery, she said:
I thought you were younger, I thought you were fresher-looking, I thought you were healthier.
I suppose there may be a Karmic lesson here for Heidi Montag. I don’t have her time of birth, but I notice that she has got the South Node of the Dragon in Libra. In astrology the South Node represents the line of least resistance, and some astrologers relate it to previous incarnations.
Libra is a sociable sign, that thinks a lot about its place in society. It also tries hard to fit in. So through her cosmetic surgery she is trying to fit the model of beauty that she believes society requires.
Once she realises that such an approach is inappropriate, at this particular stage in her Karmic development, she’ll hopefully start tuning into her North Node, which is in Aries. In other words taking her own decisions, thinking for herself, and not comparing herself against some external and probably imaginary benchmark.
