Sagittarian Cameron Douglas gets five years

by Archie Dunlop on April 21, 2010

The news has just come out that Cameron Douglas, the son of Michael Douglas, has been give a five year prison sentence for drug dealing.  To be more specific, he was caught with eighteen thousand dollars worth of crystal meth, and he was also charged with dealing cocaine.

In situations like these, it’s tempting to have no sympathy.  Cameron Douglas came from a wealthy background, and over the course of his life he was no doubt given opportunities that many of us can only dream of.  And there he was, making both his own and other people’s lives miserable, through his trafficking of a very nasty drug.

Nonetheless, the judge did show some mercy – he could have been given ten years,  and it was accepted that some aspects of his upbringing contributed to the problem.

When we look at Cameron Douglas’ horoscope, we have even more sympathy.  Any half-decent astrologer looking at this chart would have guessed that drugs might have become an issue.

The problem that Cameron Douglas had to face was that his Sagittarian energy wasn’t being channelled in the right direction.  Sagittarians are always on the look out for variety, not to mention excitement, and when they lack focus there’s a danger that they go all over the place.

Matters weren’t helped by the fact that Cameron Douglas was born just before a Full Moon – he has his Moon in Gemini, the sign that’s opposite Sagittarius.  This Full Moon suggests a restless mind, that would move from one idea to the next very quickly.  And chemicals that affected the mind would perhaps have had a natural appeal – especially those chemicals that were buzzy uppers, such as cocaine and methamphetamine.

Yet what’s really telling is the position of Neptune.  In astrology Neptune is the planet of drugs, and Cameron Douglas was born with a conjunction between the Sun and Neptune.  The Sun is the whole way one expresses oneself, and people with Sun-Neptune conjunctions can be attracted to things that are unreal, that have a touch of fantasy.  Furthermore, Neptune can sap one’s vitality – so perhaps at critical stages in his acting career he was unable to follow through his advantage.

It’s also worth noting that in astrology the Sun represents the father, and Neptune can be associated with alcohol as well as drugs.  It’s therefore not exactly surprising that Cameron Douglas’ father, in the 1990s, underwent treatment for alcohol abuse.

Now that I’ve outlined some of the main features of Cameron Douglas’ horoscope, we can have another look at the five year sentence for drug dealing.  It wasn’t Cameron Douglas’ fault that he was born with the horoscope that he was born with, and if the judge had considered the horoscope he might have been inclined to give him an even shorter sentence.

Having said that, there’s a question of Karma.  If we believe in reincarnation, then we might say that this horoscope represents the things from the past that Cameron Douglas brought with him into his current incarnation.  It was up to him to deal with them, and perhaps the prison sentence he is now facing is part of his Karma.

Hi Archie,

I found the Sun-Neptune connection and the inclinations of the father and son towards substances of abuse quite interesting. It’s so true that we ‘choose’ our present circumstances ourselves – parents, personality, circumstances – so that we can learn the lessons we need to for this life. One would think that Cameron Douglas would have wanted to stay as far away from alcohol/drugs as one could, since he has seen their bad effects from so close. I think that Divine grace is really upon him now if he got only five years and not ten, or it’s the good part of his karma!

I was also thinking (feel free to correct me, I am not at all a student of astrology and may have got it all wrong) how any of these planets can have a malicious influence, although it looks like Saturn gets blamed most of the times for our difficulties…

Vidya,

Of course you are right that the planets don’t have a malefic influence. However it’s linguistically convenient to imply that they do.

The way I see astrology is that it’s an acausal relationship. The planets reflect what is going on down here on Earth. Cameron Douglas has a father who was treated for alcohol abuse, and he has a Sun-Neptune conjunction. The Sun-Neptune conjunction didn’t create this situation, instead it reflects it.
