If you’re not from the UK, you might not have heard of Nick Clegg. Well, he’s supposed to be Britain’s answer to Barack Obama. Young, charismatic and very liberal – in fact some say that he represents a clean break from the past.
He is also the leader of the Liberal Democrats, Britain’s third party. As a result of a good performance in a TV debate, his poll ratings have gone through the roof, and it’s now suggested that he might soon be in government, following the May 6 General Election. Probably not as Prime Minister, but as part of a coalition.
Instinctively I don’t buy the hype, and I therefore am very weary about commenting on his horoscope. I didn’t buy the hype of Obama, and that clouded my astrological judgement when looking at the 2008 Presidential election. So really, I shouldn’t be writing this article.
Matters are made more difficult by the fact that I don’t have Nick Clegg’s time of birth.
Still, I do know that he was born on January 7 1967, which makes him a Capricorn. The last Liberal Prime Minister, David Lloyd George, who was Prime Minister from 1916 through to 1922, was also a Capricorn.
Looking at things in a general sense, there is, in my opinion, no chance that Nick Clegg is going to break any moulds. There is an 180-degree aspect between Jupiter and Saturn coming up, and it dominates the landscape over the next year or two. This aspect is about splitting apart, about having to face the consequences of previous mistakes. Bright new faces can’t prosper, unless they’re very serious and very conservative. This is of course one of the reasons why Barak Obama is finding it so difficult to make an impact.
As far as Nick Clegg’s horoscope is concerned, the lack of a birth time really hampers me, but I nonetheless don’t regard his chart as being exceptional – certainly not in the league of Barack Obama.
He has a Sun-Mercury conjunction in Capricorn, which is making a stressful aspect to Mars in Libra. In late 2010 and through 2011 this configuration will be aspected by Saturn. While Saturn transits can equate with political power, they can also equate with frustration and disappointment.
In his Hindu horoscope Nick Clegg has Mars and Saturn in opposite signs, respectively Virgo and Pisces. From this Hindu perspective, Saturn is moving through Virgo until November 2011, which is going to make things very difficult for him.
As far as what’s going to happen, I don’t believe that he can maintain his momentum, even if he does very well in the election. As 2010 unfolds, it will become clear that there are limits to what Nick Clegg can achieve.
If he is in government, then his Achilles heel will almost certainly be Europe. I am convinced that the Jupiter-Saturn opposition will greatly weaken the European Union, and that the British people will want to distance themselves from the European experiment. Yet Nick Clegg is a Europhile, who has worked for the European Commission.
So we can say that Nick Clegg is enjoying a temporary boost, which may or may not continue until election day. But it’ll soon become clear that he is out of step with the spirit of the times, unless he has a radical volte face.
However I must reiterate that I don’t know his time of birth. His Hindu horoscope suggests a period of great good fortune at the beginning of the Twentieth-first Century. But without a time of birth, I don’t know when this period will start. If he was born right at the beginning of the day, it would start in 2025, right at the end of the day, it would have started in 2006.
