The Polish pilot had five planets in Scorpio!

Sorry to go on about the Polish plane crash, but it’s such a good illustration of astrology at work.

I have already looked at the Polish President’s horoscope.  His chart illustrated the famous maxim that ‘character is destiny’ – to a great extent the crash was a function of his personal psychology.

I now want to look at the horoscope of the pilot, Arkadiusz Protasiuk.  He was apparently born on November 13 1974.  It’s an extraordinary chart, and I am amazed that he was allowed to pilot such an important flight.  I can only assume that his superiors weren’t looking at his horoscope.

Let’s get down to details.   Arkadiusz Protasiuk was born the day before a New Moon, and he had both the Sun and the Moon in Scorpio.  In fact, he had Mercury, Venus and Mars in this sign as well.  This was a major line-up!

Furthermore, he had Jupiter in Pisces and Saturn in Cancer.  So he had all seven traditional  planets in Water signs, in other words in Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.  This made him very focused, but at some level, unbalanced – after all, he had no traditional planets in the other Elements, of Fire, Air and Earth.

The Water signs are about feelings, and clearly he was someone who had powerful emotions.  He would also have been very sensitive to what was going on around him.  Even if the President didn’t pressurise him to land at Smolensk, he would have been aware of the general vibe.

Of course it could be argued that if anyone could pull off a landing in thick fog, it would be someone with a lot of Water.  The sensitivity of this sign would have perhaps allowed it to ‘feel’ its way through.

Yet it seems to me that when someone is under pressure, their Elemental lack of balance could become a real problem.  With no Earth in his chart, Arkadiusz Protasiuk might have ignored his senses, with no Air he might have ignored his logic, with no Fire he might have ignored his intuition.

There is also the issue of him having five planets in Scorpio.  Scorpio is a sign that is very rigid, that would be entirely focused on the mission.  It was an important flight, and its aim was to get the VIP passengers to Smolensk.  I suspect that in Arkadiusz Protasiuk’s mind, there was no Plan B.  It was Smolensk or bust.

Looking more closely at his planets, he had Mars on the Sun-Uranus midpoint at the time of his birth.  The Sun and Uranus are a pairing that’s independent-minded but also accident-prone, and with Mars on this midpoint we get a telling signature, as Reinhold Ebertin described:

A person prone to hasty physical action, precipitation and rash action. – Injury, accident.

He also had Uranus aspecting the Mars-Saturn midpoint.  Uranus is the planet of accidents, while Mars and Saturn, when combined, are often connected with death.  As Ebertin put it:

A test of nervous strength, intervention by Higher Power or by Providence, a sudden illness, a sudden accident, separation or case of death.

Arkadiusz Protasiuk may have had an exemplary record prior to the accident, but that’s not enough.  To me his horoscope suggests that he shouldn’t have been allowed to fly planes, unless it was a high attrition combat situation.
