The life and death of Aquarian and white supremacist Eugene Terreblanche

by Archie Dunlop on April 5, 2010

Eugene Terreblanche was a white South African.  To be more precise, he was an Afrikaan politician, whose party the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging want to create an independent, Boer republic.

Eugene Terreblanche was a staunch supporter of apartheid, and he was known for his powerful oratory.  In the late 1990s he was imprisoned for assault and attempted murder.

On April 3 2010 Eugene Terreblanche was murdered – he was hacked to death, allegedly by two farm workers, in a wage dispute.

Eugene Terreblanche was born on January 31 1941, with the Sun in Aquarius.

I suppose it’s not surprising that he was an Aquarian.  Astrologers regard Aquarius as being a ‘fixed’ sign – the other fixed signs are Taurus, Leo and Scorpio.  The fixed signs can be resistant to change, and this was certainly the cause with Eugene Terreblanche.  While the apartheid regime was still in power, he opposed even the smallest ‘liberalisations’, and of course he was totally opposed to the new, post-apartheid South Africa.

In this light, Aquarians can be independent-minded, and can set themselves apart from broader trends.  Very often this independent-mindedness makes them trailblazers for the future, but sometimes, as was the case with Eugene Terreblanche, they can be stuck in the past.

As far as the details of his horoscope  are concerned, he had a stressful, 90-degree aspect between Mercury in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus.  Mercury is the planet of communication, and Uranus is an unstable but somewhat compelling influence – hence the rabble-rousing connotations of this contact.  Adolf Hitler had an opposition aspect between Mercury and Uranus, while British fascist Oswald Mosley had a conjunction.

We then have to consider why Eugene Terreblanche died when he did.  I don’t have his time of birth, but I notice that the day before he died there was a 45-degree aspect between the Sun and Neptune, which triggered his Mars-Saturn midpoint.

The Mars-Saturn pair are often connected with death, and there might have been some short-term vulnerability.

It’s also possible that the New Moon on March 15 was a contributing factor.  This New Moon was in the twenty-sixth degree of Pisces, and was conjunct Uranus.  At midday on Eugene Terreblanche’s birthday the Moon was in the twenty-seventh degree of Pisces.

This perhaps demonstrates that New Moons have a lasting impact, and if a New Moon hits a critical area of the horoscope the whole of the following month could be affected.

I want to make one final observation, relating to names rather than astrology.  Isn’t it uncanny that someone who wanted a homeland for South African whites has got the surname Terreblanche?  He really was born with this name – he was of French ancestry, and of course in French ‘terre blanche’ means ‘white land’ or ‘white earth’.  Did the power of his name drive him towards a particular fantasy?
