Astrology, the Moscow subway bombings and the need for restraint

by Archie Dunlop on March 29, 2010

This morning I saw the news from Moscow, that two bombs had exploded on the Moscow subway, killing nearly forty people, at the latest count.

Like every astrologer who has any interest in politics and world affairs, I set up a horoscope for the exact time of the first bombing.  It’s something that astrologers do, however fuzzy, cuddly and new age we are.  We find disasters fascinating, and we love looking at events, which we didn’t predict, with 20-20 hindsight.

In the case of the Moscow bombings, I’m not sure anyone could have predicted it.  The horoscope did have a close, 180-degree aspect between the Moon in Virgo and Uranus in Pisces, but this aspect was not prominently configured – for example, it wasn’t on the horizon.  Besides, Moon-Uranus aspects are regular events, happening every month.

I looked at other charts, for example the chart of the exact time of the Spring Equinox, set for Moscow, as well as the chart of the previous New Moon.  There were indications of tension, and aggravation, but nothing that really stuck out.

So what we have to do is look at the wider picture.  The world is becoming more tense, and some people are becoming more desperate.

This can be symbolised by an opposition aspect between Saturn and and Uranus.  This aspect has been in operation for a couple of years already, but it’s becoming a lot more dangerous.  This is because Saturn is now very close to zero degrees Libra, while Uranus is getting closer to the opposite degree, zero degrees Aries.

With this Saturn-Uranus aspect, something has to give.  And I would guess that the terrorists involved in the explosions were reacting to their own despondence. Revolutionary Islam is losing its appeal, so terrorists might feel that they have to do something really drastic, so as to regain the initiative.

By the way, in a previous article, I discussed the impact of Pluto going into Capricorn.  I took the view that this was bad news for Islamic terrorists, because people are going to become more interested in having food on their table, rather than dying and suffering for an abstract cause.

However in the short-term this doesn’t mean that terrorism is less of a danger.  In fact probably the reverse.  Over the next few months, while the Saturn-Uranus aspect is at peak strength, there could be further outrages, as terrorists try to provoke government retaliation, which they hope will in turn mobilise their supporters.

And under these circumstances, I would firstly suggest that over the Summer governments are extra vigilant about terrorist threats.  I would secondly suggest that if outrages happen, the response is very measured.  It’s certainly not a time to play to the electorate with heavy-handed gestures.
