Astrology, the Korean conflict and the Year of the Tiger

by Archie Dunlop on March 26, 2010

I thought this week was going to be a problem.  There was a lot of astrological tension, with the Sun aspecting both Saturn and Pluto.

The US healthcare bill might have passed, but its opponents are determined to fight.  And in the Middle East Benjamin Netanyahu has made it clear that his country won’t compromise over the Jewish settlements in East Jerusalem.

If there’s a bright spot, it’s the successful progress of nuclear reduction talks between the US and Russia.  I remember reading an astrology book that connected Sun-Saturn aspects with Cold War disarmament talks, so this astrological effect is continuing, two decades after the fall of Communism.

However the big news this week is the sinking of a South Korean naval vessel.  At the moment we don’t know why the ship sank, but there are suggestions that the North Koreans might be involved.

The Korean Peninsular has certainly been a problem for a very long time, and matters have been made worse by North Korea’s acquisition of nuclear weapons.

Indeed it was sixty years ago that the Korean War started – on June 25 1950, to be precise.

On this day, Jupiter was at around seven degrees Pisces, and Saturn was at around fourteen degrees Virgo.  And guess what?

In 2010, Jupiter is back in Pisces.  And on April 7 Saturn moves into Virgo, where it says until July 21.

Furthermore, the Korean war began in the year of the Tiger.  In fact, in the year of the Metal Tiger.  If you don’t know about the Chinese elements, let me quickly explain.

In Chinese astrology there are five elements: Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth.  And while the Chinese animals repeat every twelve years, they repeat as a different element.  So 1950 was the year of the Metal Tiger, 1962 the Water Tiger, 1974 the Wood Tiger, 1986 the Fire Tiger, 1998 the Earth Tiger.  Then the cycle completes, with 2010 being another Metal Tiger.  In other words, it’s a sixty year cycle.

This means that there exist important astrological parallels between 1950 and 2010, in terms of both Chinese and Western astrology.

However I am not saying that there will necessarily be another war between North and South Korea.  The world has moved on, and unlike in the early 1950s, North Korea won’t get any military backing from China and Russia.

Nonetheless, the Korean peninsular is going to be a dangerous place in 2010, and the sinking of the South Korean ship might be a taste of things to come.
