The horoscope of child-killer Jon Venables

by Archie Dunlop on March 6, 2010

No apologies here.  The British press is in a frenzy about Jon Venables, and I’ve got every right to look at his horoscope.  Assuming I can find it.

To fill you in on the details, in the early 1990s a two-year old boy, James Bulger, was abducted and killed by a pair of ten year olds.  It was a shocking story, not least because it was very difficult for justice to be done – especially in the eyes of the victim’s family.

Most people would agree that a ten year old child shouldn’t be treated as an adult, however bad their crime, and they might even agree that with the right support and education the child could be released from prison at a relatively young age.

Of course there is something fundamentally unfair about this position.  The perpetrator gets an expensive and personal education, and some would say that in effect they’re being rewarded for committing murder.

In Jon Venable’s case, he was released from prison when he was eighteen, as it was felt that he was no longer represented a threat to society.  He was given a new identity and that should have been the end of it.

However the news has now got out that he’s back in prison, at the age of twenty-seven.  The  authorities aren’t saying why, and there’s massive speculation about what happened.  It could have been a simple breech of his parole conditions, it could have been something much more serious.

So what kind of person is Jon Venables, based on astrology?

Unfortunately, I can’t give a clear answer, not least because a number of different birthdays have been given.  Though all of them are in early August 1982.

Wikipedia, at the time of writing, gives August 13.  An articles in The Guardian, written in 2000, concurs with this date.  Yet The Times recently went for August 6.  Other dates that come up on a Google search include August 8 and August 12.

While August 13 is the most frequently mentioned date, I won’t be tied to it, and instead I’ll look at the time frame from August 6 through to August 13.

This makes Jon Venables a Leo.  It also gives him a close Mars-Jupiter conjunction in early Scorpio.

Traditionally Mars is well-placed in Scorpio, especially when it’s close to Jupiter.  Mars is a dynamic influence, and if it’s channelled properly there can be great results.  For example as a soldier, boxer or martial arts enthusiast.

Jupiter makes everything larger – on the plus side it’s connected with good fortune, on the negative side exaggeration.  It therefore intensifies Mars, for better or for worse.

If the Mars-Jupiter conjunction gets warped or frustrated there can be real problems – it can express itself as sheer violence.  And as it happened, James Bulger died from massive injuries, showing a brutal but calculated attack.

Now it’s obvious that millions of people were born in early August 1982, and they all have Mars-Jupiter conjunctions.  And the vast majority of them are leading peaceful and constructive lives.  Indeed I just had a look at Wikipedia, and a number of talented sportspeople were born at this time – Mars can be a very sporting planet, and conjunct Jupiter it can bring good fortune on the playing field.

Yet in Jon Venables’ case it was already clear, when he was ten years old, that the Mars energy was expressing itself in a very destructive way.  In this case, the people looking after him should have really focused on his Mars-Jupiter conjunction, so that it could be channelled in the right direction.  Unfortunately this would never happen, because astrology is still regarded as a gimmick.
