I got a lot of criticism for not writing about Tiger Woods earlier. I claimed that I wasn’t interested in golf, that it’s an old story, that I was writing about British politics instead… however my excuses didn’t wash, and today I’ll try to make amends.
The latest development in the Tiger Woods saga is that he’s given a public apology for his past infidelities. Which seems a reasonable thing to do, under the circumstances.
As far as the astrology is concerned, Tiger Woods was born on December 30 1975 – which makes him a Capricorn.
All things being equal Capricorn is a sensible sign, which understands its responsibilities. Indeed his Sun in Capricorn is in the Fourth House, a part of the horoscope connected with the home and family. So I really do think that Tiger Woods appreciates the importance of having a secure and untroubled family life.
And while astrologers often like to discuss charts with 20-20 hindsight, saying that particular tendencies and behaviours were completely obvious, in Tiger Woods’ case I wouldn’t have seen it. Instead I would have seen a family man, and a very unlikely candidate for repeat adultery.
Of course now I know the facts, I can look at his horoscope and try to work out what happened.
Tiger Woods is clearly someone who sets himself high standards, and is used to pushing himself very hard. This is partly because his Capricorn Sun is making hard aspects to both Jupiter and Pluto. However well he is doing, he feels that he can do better. Though of course this might also be reflected by the pressure he’s under from other people – for example being pushed to succeed, from a young age.
Yet if one is being pushed in one direction parts of one’s personality might be forgotten, or underplayed. And all the while they’ll be crying out for attention. In Tiger Woods’ horoscope this is shown by a stressful aspect between Mars and Neptune. It’s an aspect that can be attracted to things that are somewhat unsavoury, even a bit sleazy. And when the temptations appeared, this Mars-Neptune aspect started expressing itself.
If, on the other hand, there had been less pressure, the Mars-Neptune aspect might have found more healthy outlets. These outlets could have had a spiritual dimension, Mars being the planet of energy and Neptune, at its highest level, being the planet of spirituality. So this aspect could have intensified the Buddhist faith which is already a part of Tiger Woods’ life.
As far as the apology is concerned, it’s easy to be cynical. Surely he would apologise, wouldn’t he? Well, I actually believe that Tiger Woods is being sincere.
Over the last few years the planets Saturn and Uranus have been activating a lot of stuff in his horoscope, and I think that’s why he did what he did. In particular, Uranus has been going over his descendant, and this very often causes marital difficulty. Yet the influence of Saturn and Uranus is now passing, and there’s every reason to believe that he has learnt from his mistakes.
Also, Tiger Woods referred to Buddhism in his apology, indicating that his Mars-Neptune aspect was already manifesting in a positive and constructive way:
Buddhism teaches that a craving for things outside ourselves causes an unhappy and pointless search for security. It teaches me to stop following every impulse and to learn restraint. Obviously I lost track of what I was taught.
I should also emphasise that Tiger Woods has the horoscope of someone who can be happy in his married life, and I think his wife Elin Nordegren should give him a second chance. Especially as she is a fellow Capricorn, her birthday falling only two days after his, on January 1.
Put another way… give the guy a break!
