I’ve just been reading that two US senators have been trying to get a bill through Congress that focuses on regime change in Iran. As I understand it, this bill would mandate the US government to take all possible measures, short of violence, to bring down the current regime in Iran.
Of course there are some people that want America to go further, with particular reference to Iran’s nuclear program. They believe that Iran is aiming to acquire nuclear weapons, and they want her nuclear facilities to be bombed at the first opportunity.
Astrology aside, I’m not sure if that’s the right approach. While many Iranians don’t like their government, and would be happy for the Islamic regime to collapse, there’s also a question of national pride. Whatever an Iranian’s religious beliefs, he or she might argue that their country has got every right to enrich uranium, indeed has got every right to possess nuclear weapons. And if America attacks Iran, or gives blatant support to the opposition, this would just strengthen the Iranian government’s position.
From an astrological point of view, I think it would be very unwise for America to overtly intervene in Iran’s affairs, even if the country starts manufacturing its own atomic bombs. Instead the US should be patient. It seems clear that the Iranian government is losing popularity, and I believe that the Jupiter-Saturn opposition, which is exact in 2010 and 2011, symbolises the end of Iran’s theocratic government.
I’ve talked about this opposition repeatedly in my articles. Jupiter and Saturn are close to being 180 degrees from each other, and this position happens every twenty years. The last occurrence was in 1989 and 1990, and it brought communism to an end in Eastern Europe and Russia.
The Jupiter-Saturn oppositions tend to symbolise extreme tension, that can no longer be papered over. And their impact can be very sudden. Few people believed that communism could fall, and it then suddenly collapsed, like a house of cards.
And as we saw with communism, it doesn’t matter how brutal the regime is. The Jupiter-Saturn opposition will still tear it apart.
We also have to remember that Pluto is now in Capricorn. Pluto is a slow-moving planet, and it stays in this sign until the early 2020s. People are becoming more grounded, and government is no longer about far-fetched ideals, of a political or religious nature. Instead, it’s about making the books balance and maintaining a decent standard of living for the population at large. So in this sense, the concept of religious government is out of synch with the times.
As I discussed in an earlier article, the Islamic regime in Iran has its Sun in Aquarius – because it came to power on February 11 1979. In fact the Islamic regime in Iran is very strongly Aquarian – on February 11 1979 there was a conjunction between Mars, the Sun and Mercury in this sign.
This suggests a regime that’s inflexible, that can find it difficult to adjust to changing circumstances. And when the regime loses support, it’s likely to become brittle.
When we look at the horoscope of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the hard-line Iranian President, we see that his Sun is in Scorpio. It’s true that Scorpios can be very perceptive, in terms of understanding the strengths and weaknesses of their enemies, but they can also be extremely stubborn. In particular, when the collective energy changes, they tend to dig their heals in, and pretend that nothing has happened. This can be their downfall.
I don’t know exactly when the Iranian regime will topple, but I think that by the end of 2011 things will be very different in Iran than they are now. There might nonetheless be strong hints that something big is happening in May and early June of this year.
However if the America government wants to make the most of the situation, I would strongly advise them not to intervene, at least not publicly. Instead let the regime collapse, in a way that’s natural and organic.
