The trials and tribulations of Piscean Pete Doherty

by Archie Dunlop on January 30, 2010

Rock musician Pete Doherty has been in the news again.  In December, while making a court appearance for heroin possession, he was arrested for… heroin possession. A couple of days ago he was fined seven hundred and fifty pounds for this latest offence.

Yet the really big news is that a woman who had been making a film about him has died.  This woman, Robin Whitehead, was a member of the very wealthy Goldsmith family, and there’s a suggestion that she overdosed on heroin.

This is not the first time that death has intruded on Pete Doherty.  In 2006 Mark Blanco, a guest at a party he was attending, fell from a balcony and died.  The circumstances of the event were unclear, and as a result of the incident the tabloid press cast negative aspersions about Pete Doherty and some of his associates.

As far as Pete Doherty’s horoscope is concerned, he is a Pisces, born on March 12 1979.  Probably the strongest planet in his horoscope is Jupiter, which is in Cancer, the sign of its exaltation.  Jupiter can be an over-the-top influence, which knows few boundaries.  And perhaps this has been reflected in his drug-taking.

Yet Jupiter is also the planet of good fortune.  Over the last few years he seems to have got away with a great deal.  In spite of his drug-taking he is still alive, and in spite of his criminal offences he’s only spend a few weeks in prison, in April and May of 2008.

Interestingly, the day after Pete Doherty’s birth there was a Full Moon eclipse – to be precise a partial eclipse of the Moon.  This is a powerful influence, and it’s clear that he was born at a time of great astrological tension.  Such tension can make life difficult, but there’s nothing mediocre or second rate about it.  Pete Doherty is genuinely very talented, and if he works on himself his best years are surely ahead of him.

Pete Doherty’s Sun in Pisces is juxtaposed to his Moon in Virgo.  Pisces is a sign that’s sensitive, perhaps to the point of being visionary; Virgo is about detail, and bringing things down to earth.  Through music and writing he can tell the world what he feels, but at times it might feel like a struggle.

The concept of struggle is made more intense by a close, 180-degree aspect between Mars and Saturn.  These two planets can cause a lot of trouble, and when I have clients with Mars-Saturn combinations I usually recommend that they do something that’s heavy-duty but constructive, as a way of expressing their feelings.  For example martial arts, or bongo drumming.

Mars and Saturn, as a pair, are associated with death, and it seems an interesting coincidence that Pete Doherty once worked in a cemetery, filling in graves.  And over the last few years the Mars-Saturn energy has been manifesting in his immediate environment, through the deaths of Mark Blanco and Robin Whitehead.

Looking at Pete Doherty’s future, it’s difficult to be precise, because I don’t have his time of birth.  Over the next few months, until early June, he has to be careful, because Jupiter is moving through Pisces, his star sign.  Luck and excessiveness walk hand in hand, and it really matters that he keeps his focus.

Longer term, I feel that it’s important that Pete Doherty finds something to believe in.  This could be difficult for him, because with his Moon in Virgo, conjunct Saturn, he’s got a fine critical mind, that’s good at picking holes in other people’s ideas.  But there are times in life when it’s OK to believe in something without asking too many questions.
