Saturn moves into Libra

by Archie Dunlop on October 29, 2009

Saturn is a slow moving planet. It takes around twenty-nine and a half years to move through all the twelve signs. So it will stay in each sign for a couple of years.

Since September 2007 it has been moving through Virgo. And now, over two years later, it’s in Libra. To be precise, it entered Libra at 5.09 pm GMT on October 29 2009. Next year it does briefly go back into Virgo, from April through to July. This is because of a phenomenon known as retrograde motion, but I won’t bother you with the details. However the big change has happened, and aside from a few months next year, Saturn will remain in Libra until 2012.

From a sun sign point of view, Geminis, Virgos, Sagittarians and Pisceans will feel a sense of relief that Saturn has left Virgo. The last few years have been tough, and there have been a lot of lessons to learn.

If, on the other hand, you’re an Aries, Cancerian, Libran or Capricorn, then Saturn’s movement into Libra could have big implications.

Between now and 2012 there are going to be new responsibilities, and a serious approach will be required. If you’re sloppy there could be trouble, but if you’re hard working, and you honour your various commitments, then the next few years could be very rewarding.

As far as the world is concerned, Saturn likes being in a Libra. In the jargon, it’s ‘exalted’ in this sign. So all of us, regardless of our sign, should honour Saturn’s energy. Having a responsible approach, particularly in terms of relationships.

We’re reminded that we’re social animals, that on our own we’re nothing. We must respect our fellow human beings, and if we’re disloyal, or we betray anyone’s trust, we’re likely to be punished.

Looking at international politics, it seems that alliances and partnerships are going to be under pressure. Governments will start to understand the implications of the agreements and treaties that they’ve signed up to, and nations will discover who their true friends are.

In conclusion, all of us, as we contemplate Saturn’s movement into Libra, should remember Benjamin Franklin’s oft-quoted words: ‘We must, indeed, all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately’.
