Thank you for a great website. My question is whether you see the same unexpected changes in my career (sometimes negative, sometimes positive) in the future that have occurred over the past 10 years? One astrologer says yes, another says no! – George, New York

George, it can often be a problem when one doesn’t know the precise time of birth.  You gave me a three-hour window, and that means I can’t tell for sure what your Ascendant is.  And while your Moon is definitely in Taurus in your Western horoscope, it could either be in Aries or Taurus in your Hindu horoscope.

Nonetheless, we can be pretty sure, using Hindu astrology, what phase you’re going through.  If I take the earlier time you gave, then your entered a Rahu phase of life on January 30 1990, and a Jupiter phase on January 30 2008, which will continue until January 30 2024.  If I take the later time, these dates go back eight months, respectively to June 1 1989, June 2 2007 and June 2 2023.

So some time from June 2 2007 through to January 30 2008 there was a big change in your life, as you entered the Jupiter phase.  And it’s nothing trivial, because it lasts for sixteen years!

This change will almost certainly have an impact on your career, though the lack of a precise birth time makes it difficult to be precise about what this impact might involve.  I would guess that you became more open-minded, and less materialistic.  It became easier to see beyond your short-term desires, and you could start seeing the overall picture.  I would also see it as a time of greater stability, particularly if were born in the last two hours and ten minutes of the time window you gave.

Overall, I don’t see the same pattern repeating, as you experienced in the past.  In 2007 or 2008 there was a clear change, and I would be surprised if you weren’t already feelings its impact.
However it’s possible that so far, things haven’t been very positive.  You have Jupiter in Leo, both in the Eastern and Western Zodiacs, and using the Eastern Zodiac, Saturn entered this sign in July 2007.  Saturn usually has a  negative impact, and while passing through Leo it could have negated many of Jupiter’s benefits – you perhaps felt that your ambitious were being thwarted, that your big ideas were being frustrated by circumstances beyond your control.

Saturn leaves Leo in early September 2009, and it’s probably at this stage that you’ll start feeling the positive side of the Jupiter period that you’re in.  And there should also be benefits in your career, particularly if you’re prepared to honour Jupiter’s energy.  You can do this by making Jupiter’s day (Thursday) special.  Doing good deeds on Thursday, and also having a wholesome lifestyle.  For example, not smoking, not drinking alcohol and restricting yourself to modest, vegetarian meals.
