I am a Scorpio with Aquarius rising, and the Moon in Capricorn. I am curious to know about my career over the next 2 years. I feel as though I have drifted through life. Will there be something I can direct my passion towards? – Pauline, California

Thanks for your question.  You raise two issues.  Firstly, why you might be drifting through life, and secondly, what the next two years are going to be like.

If you really are drifting through life, this must be annoying, because I don’t believe that you’re a natural drifter.  You have the Moon in Capricorn, and people with this placement are very good at looking after their own interests, and they put a high premium on security.  This is especially true in a female horoscope, where the Moon is arguably more important than the Sun.

Also, in your Hindu horoscope, you have Ketu, known in the West as the South Node of the Moon, in the Tenth House, and this often signifies great ambition.

So what might be frustrating you?

You have an opposition aspect between Mars and Saturn.  It’s a difficult influence, and the material world might seem to frustrate you at every turn.  You might also find that other people have an annoying habit of always tripping you up.  This suggests that partnerships should be treated with great caution, and that you should never be in a situation where you’re reliant on another person.

On a different note, you’ve got a lot of planets in Scorpio – the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Neptune.  And also the South Node of the Moon.  This could all be too much to handle, and it might be tying you to a path that isn’t very constructive.

Talking life too seriously, being too emotional, being too intense, perhaps even being too spiritual.  You might be focusing too much on the big picture, and not considering the smaller details.

This suggests that a good way to stop yourself drifting would be to focus on the material world, and perhaps to do things like gardening, or making things, with your bare hands.  I don’t mean in professional sense, necessarily – rather, it’s an exercise, to get you in tune with your destiny.  However in terms of your career, it’s always important that you do lots of planning, that every step gets carefully mapped out.

At far as forecasts are concerned, in late 2008 and through most of 2009 Saturn will be triggering your Mars-Saturn opposition.  This could be a frustrating time for you, and right now you might feel that you’ve hit a brick wall.  Also, Neptune will be making stressful aspects to some of your Scorpio planets, which could increase the tendency to drift.

However there is nothing inevitable about the situation.  If you’re able to be very organised, to focus on the details, to take each day as it comes, the Saturn energy could work in your favour.  Through hard work you can eventually get to grips with things.

From a Hindu perspective, you’re in a period of life which started in October 1994 and continues until October 2012.  It’s ruled by Rahu, the North Node of the Moon, and it could have been a period of considerable disruption.  There could have been numerous changes, particularly in your home environment, and at times you could have been blinded by the strength of your desires.

Looking at your career, there’s a real possibility that nothing much changes between now and 2012.  The grass always seems greener somewhere else, and as a result you can’t put sufficient energy into what you’re doing to garner success or satisfaction.  It’s therefore essential that you work constructively with Rahu, because over the next few years its influence can’t be avoided.

You have to take a stand – find the best possibility, and stick with it, even if in the first instance you don’t feel fulfilled.  You have to bring the force of your desires down to earth, and focus them on what you’re doing.  And you shouldn’t be afraid of being bored.

Which brings me back to your original question, ‘Will there be something I can direct my passion towards?’  It’s probably best that you don’t think in terms of passion, that instead you do the job.  Excitement should be a bonus and not a necessity.

You might also want to take active measures to strengthen Rahu, so that its energy becomes more benefic.  For example, you could wear the gemstone agate, because it has a special affinity with Rahu.

A more dramatic approach, which you might not be comfortable with, is keeping a reptile.  Rahu is sometimes know as ‘the head of the dragon’, and snakes and lizards have a certain similarity to dragons.  Looking after a reptile, if you’re able, could greatly mitigate any negative effects of Rahu, though of course don’t keep anything dangerous.  As an alternative, you might want to put up pictures of dragons, snakes and lizards in your house or apartment.

In October 2012 there is a big change in your life.  The Rahu period comes to an end, and the new period is ruled by Jupiter.  In your Hindu horoscope Jupiter is your strongest planet, and the period of its rulership, from 2012 to 2028 should be very fortunate.

And perhaps it’s at this stage that you’ll find real focus – as well as something to get passionate about.

You’ll also be helped by other people.  As I’ve said, relationships need to be treated with caution, but from October 2012 onwards the right kind of people will be moving into your life – in terms of romance, business and friendship.  Maybe there’ll be a business partnership, that fulfills many of your requirements?
