Obama chooses Scorpio Joe Biden – and loses in November

by Archie Dunlop on August 23, 2008

So, it’s official, Barack Obama is going to lose the presidential election in November.

I was always ninety-five percent certain, for a number of astrological reasons, but if he’d picked Scorpio Hillary Clinton as his running mate it would have been difficult to see him not being president – for reasons of common sense rather than astrology. But I suppose Obama was fated to make the wrong decision, he was fated to choose the wrong Scorpio.

Senator Joseph Biden is most certainly a Scorpio, born on November 20 1942. Scorpio is a sign that’s very emotional, and I’m sure that there are many things that he feels passionate about – though the extent of his passion is often kept secret. And because of his secretive streak, I’m slightly surprised that he got into politics.

I suppose his political energy comes from a favourable aspect between his Sun in Scorpio and his Jupiter in Cancer. It’s an aspect that’s very dynamic, that allows him to throw everything he’s got into his various activities. And I do think that he’s in politics for the right reasons – he wants to make the world a better place.

My biggest concern about his horoscope is the state of his Mercury. Mercury’s the planet of communication, but it’s conjunct his Scorpio Sun. This suggests that he’s capable of making errors of judgement. He might, at times, get his facts wrong, and he might miss things out.

In his 1980s shot at the presidency, Biden made a speech which was lifted from British politician Neil Kinnock – and he forgot to credit the original author. This oversight played a large role in the sinking his campaign.

On November 4 2008, the day of the presidential election, the planet Mars is at twenty-two degrees of Scorpio, close to his Mercury. There might be feelings of anger and frustration, that are difficult for him to express. And it’s a tragic observation, but on December 18 1972, when Joe Biden’s wife and daughter were killed in a car crash, Mars was at this same degree, twenty-two degrees Scorpio. November 4 will, I believe, be a very unfortunate day for him.

I also believe, having looked at Joe Biden’s Hindu chart, that on a psychological level he’s going to be hit much harder than Obama by their inevitable loss in the November elections. Indeed, it could take him several years to recover.

In your analysis of why Obama will lose in 2008 you seem to be discounting if not totally neglecting the Uranus-Saturn opposition which is exact ON ELECTION DAY.

Interestingly, the moon will move from Capricorn to Aquarius at I think around 5 pm Pacific time which may effect the mood of wavering, undecided voters in the West. I suspect that Obama will pull very close toward the end of the day, but probably lose anyway, though mostly due to Jupiter(rules U.S ascendant) in Capricorn plus Scorpio(fear) influences at the time.

The good news being that the O-Man is young enough and obviously charismatic enough to run again later. Plus he will obviously have gained much more experience by then. So, why are you not paying more attention to Saturn/Uranus given the amazing coincidence of their opposition (status quo versus change) on election day?

It’s interesting that we both suspect Obama will lose but for different reasons from an astrological perspective. Jupiter does appear to be in near trine to Saturn at that time and in near sextile to Uranus. Overall I think that will be to McCain’s advantage since Jupiter is in Capricorn ruled by Saturn.

I also just noticed that the Moon in Aquarius will be squaring Mercury in Scorpio at about 5:18 pm Pacific time. Although Obama will no doubt win California (I hope), other Western states such as Nevada, New Mexico and Colorado (Oregon?) may still be in play at that time, and on the fence voters, of whom there will be many, will have to choose between their more primal emotions (Scorpio) and their instinct for something new (Aquarius). This combined with the Uranus-Saturn opposition will make for a very tough choice for, I suspect, many people.

The movement of the Moon into Aquarius at about 4 pm Pacific (5pm Mountain time) should give Obama a boost among the many undecided voters who I think will determine the election. That is why I think he will have a late rally that will make the election much closer than it appears to be earlier on.

Unfortunately, however, I just suspect that there will be too many factors working against Obama, including the fact that Pluto is back in Sag. Obama’s greatest momentum in the primaries came when Pluto was in Cap. With Pluto back in Sag. all of the primal fears about terrorism, Islam, even people who appear somehow “foreign” or “exotic” are revisited.

Even more unfortunately, I suspect that this election will mark the beginning of a period of even greater divisiveness in this country. The opposition will form 5 times from then through 2010. Perhaps something once again suspect in the election results will trigger it. Perhaps that Mercury in Scorpio will manifest as some underhanded handling of progressive voter response as represented by the Moon in Aquarius. Yet another suspect election could REALLY throw the country into turmoil this time, especially with so much at stake. The last time Saturn and Uranus opposed each other was during the time that the Vietnam War was beginning to strongly divide the country.

With Uranus in Pisces this time I think that Obama and perhaps in particular some of his supporters have to get beyond the “dream of change” and launch into strong and persistent critiques of McCain. Biden will help a great deal with this, but McCain, being widely portrayed and seen as the seasoned and experienced one, will no doubt maintain the upper hand in this regard. The Republicans are just better at it after so many years of practice. Thus another reason why Saturn in Virgo trumping Uranus in Pisces will likely manifest in a Republican victory.

Mark, thanks for filling in the gaps… I wasn’t able to mention everything. The Saturn-Uranus opposition could be interpreted as a fear of change – a nervousness in the polling booth. And McCain, as the ‘old man’, as Saturn, will seem the safest best.

However, a major plank of my argument against Obama winning is the stage we’re at in the Jupiter-Saturn cycle. I wrote this article about it:

I don’t think one should be too afraid of a McCain presidency. 2008 is not the change year, and if Obama was elected he would mess up, through no fault of his own. The 2012 Republican victor would be an unknown quantity. But when McCain loses the White House in 2012, assuming he’s fit and healthy, the Democrat winner will be someone special, perhaps a new FDR.

Many astrologers disagree with you indicating that it will in fact be a very, very close race with many bumpy roads and hostile attempts. I’m going with that premise since this is the time for change. And the 8 in ‘08 is symbolic that we will not receive the same or similar type regime.

Flemmie, I appreciate that my view on Obama might be controversial. However I’ve never been so certain about the outcome of a political event. I suppose unlike some astrologers, I don’t just look at the natal chart, I look at the overall astrological picture.

As far as your comment about eight is concerned, if you look back in American history, you’ll find that very often elections taking place in years ending in eight represent at best a continuation, at worst a return to the past.

For example, Bush Senior beat Dukakis in 1988 – a continuation of Reagan.

Nixon beat Hubert Humphrey in 1968 – an attempt to return to the past, to role back the tide of 1960s liberalism.

Truman beat Dewey in 1948 – the incumbent won.

In 1928 Republican victor Herbert Hoover was the natural successor of the previous president, Republican Calvin Coolidge.

In 1908 the Republican candidate William Taft strongly defeated his very liberal Democrat rival, William Bryan.

This is nothing to do with numerology, it’s to do with the Jupiter-Saturn cycle, as I discuss in detail in the article I’ve already quoted:

2012 is the change election, not 2008!

I wonder if outer and slower plants such as Uranus carry more weight, or if the sheer size of Jupiter/Saturn is a “proven” factor? Perhaps the Uranus/Saturn opposition means that undecided will be fearful of NOT changing, and decisively break towards progressives.

Plus I wonder if the spirit, cosmic and us, is not supreme over the glactic clock or dance. And so maybe people can overcome, or work a mediocre card hand to their advantage.

While perhaps it is karma that if the Republicans win they will have to deal with their considerable messes, from the unnecessary Iraq War, to it’s weakening of the US dollar and economy, and certainly the need to start paying back Billions borrowed from Red China; otherwise the interest paymentments mulitipy and become about 3,000 BILLIONS over 30 years! $$$$ Payments of about 3-400 Billion a year JUST to stay even, more to pay down!$$$

Since McCain was a cheerleader for starting the Iraq war, along with Fox, etc., maybe this will drive the nail in their coffen as the situation goes from bad to a crisis. We are already close to that with the trade and budget deficit, and near bankruptcy of our car companies, housing needing 1-3 years to simply level off in some areas of the US.

I actually like McCains talk about budget restraint, moderation, but that’s exactly what Bush said in 2000; same with running a civil campaign, now we see the same old distorted and nasty attacks, from Rove-Satinic-like advice.

The basic facts: Iraq was promised to cost 50 Billion, which we could really afford, it was a secular government though bad, but saw extremists as a threat to power, so it had NOTHING to do with 9-11 [whilc control-freaks like Bush-Cheny did have lots to gain, “a noble war President,” glory in starting frenzy whipping up wars.

But not 4, or 14, but 16 US intelligence agencies have said it has increased hatred for the Us and therefore terrorism, maybe even Cheney might admit thats a major mistake. In fact the biggest blunder in US history!

So maybe the spiritual enlightment against the old establishment will simply transcend the ‘trends’ of stars and let the fundamental foundation of the spirit world put serios change into office. They only have to deal with about 20 major crisis’s and issues that have been left to them, and will be blamed for the solutions often unfairly, but still maybe best for the country if the people understand that this sacrifice and multi-solution assualt on our problemsn was absolutley necessary.

I think Sen. Obams words and choices have been lacking or solw at times, but still far better than comic book drill, drill,… simplisti “solutions” that are just band aids.

Well, it’s true that the Democrat ticket is looking more staid and conservative than the Republican ticket. Two Washington insiders against two mavericks. So arguably Obama and Biden are the safe choice.

However given the history of winning candidates in 08 years – at the time of the waxing Jupiter-Saturn trine – this election is almost certainly a poisoned chalice, that will pave the way to a big reaction in 2012.

If I was a liberal Democrat I’d be desperate for McCain to win, likewise if I was a conservative Republican I’d be desperate for Obama to win.

The 2012 election is really important, and it’ll set the ideological pace of America for a decade or more. Win in 2008, lose in 2012, and vice versa.

As for spiritual enlightenment… I think now is a bad time for liberals and progressives, and I see Pluto’s movement into Capricorn as being essentially reactionary. Already I see evidence of liberal values being in retreat, certainly in Western Europe, and I think this process will intensify until the early 2020s.
