Thank you Dani for your question. You also gave me your full birth details, but I deleted these from your question, because I don’t think it’s necessary to publish them. Still, you were born in the 1960s, you’re a Leo with a Virgo Ascendant and a Scorpio Moon. In Western astrology the strongest planet in your chart is the Sun. It’s in Leo, the sign it rules, and because you were born in the hours of daylight the Sun gains extra strength. In Hindu astrology the Sun is also your strongest planet.
As far as the lottery is concerned, there is no astrological signature that guarantees a lottery win. However that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t play the lottery, provided you stick to your limit, and you’re spending money you can afford to lose.
From a spiritual point of view, you should understand that big lottery wins don’t happen by accident. They happen because it is someone’s fate to win a lot of money at a particular time. At the same time, and this may sound rather contradictory, if you’re fated to be rich, and there is no means for you to be rich, then how can you become rich? By playing the lottery, even on a very small scale, you are opening a gateway for money to come your way.
Yet there is a downside to playing the lottery. If you put all your hopes of financial security and success into getting a big win, then you’re perhaps discouraged from other methods of making money. For example, working hard, setting up a business, building up some savings.
So my specific advice about the lottery, provided you really can afford the two pounds a week, is to buy the tickets, but don’t harbour any hope of winning and don’t fantasise about what you’d do if you won a seven-figure sum. You’ve opened the door, just in case Lady Luck wants to pay you a visit, but if she passes you by you’re not going to be bothered.
When I look at your Hindu horoscope it’s clear that you’ve got strong desires, and when you get it into your head that you want something you might find it difficult to relax. However provided your desires are achievable, it’s OK to be ambitious.
Yet I think that for some time it has been difficult for you to get what you want.
In February 1997 you entered your Mercury mahadasa – which means ‘great period’ in Sanskrit – and it lasts until February 2014. And in your horoscope Mercury isn’t very well placed – being in the same house as the Sun and in an opposite house to Saturn. So since 1997 there could have been money concerns and a shortage of luck. Also, some aspects of your diet could have been unhealthy.
Fortunately Hindu astrology has a system of ‘antidotes’, which you should perhaps give consideration to.
The theory goes that the planets are energies which need to be honoured, particularly if they’re badly placed. And by honouring Mercury you can allow it to function properly, to give you the benefits you deserve.
So here are two things you could do:
1. Make Wednesday special. This is the day of the week that Mercury rules. On this day you should live as purely as possible. Eat moderately, try not to eat meat, don’t drink or smoke, only watch TV programs that are good for your brain. And spend time reading things that are spiritually uplifting. It could be a favourite poet, or some sacred book – for example, the Bible or the Bhagavad Gita. You can help matters further by doing charitable work on this day.
2. Try to wear at least one item of clothing that’s green. This is because in Hindu astrology Mercury’s colour is green – which might sound strange to a Westerner, because of Taurus’ association with this colour. You might also want to wear a green gemstone. Ideally this would be an emerald, but I appreciate that that’s expensive. There are other, much cheaper stones that are also green.
I am not saying that by strengthening your Mercury you’re going to win the lottery. You’ll instead be boosting your luck across the board. And it’s then possible that you can start homing in on some of your deeper desires.
You should also bear in mind that you’re at a stage where luck can probably only come through effort. I say this because you’ve got Virgo rising, and since early September of last year Saturn has been in this sign. Those that work hard will be rewarded, those that are lazy will be disappointed. So don’t bank on winning the lottery, but for the reasons I’ve already put forward, there’s probably no harm in continuing to play. Also, until March 2009 there is an astrological indicator of a windfall gain. But I suspect it’s a case of you having to create your own luck.
I said at the beginning that the Sun was your strongest planet. This is your strength, and if you’re going to be secure in the future it’s important that you take advantage of it. I think that one of your greatest strengths is that people trust you. That’s a big deal – we live in uncertain times, and people and organisations can be very unreliable. And you stand out as someone who’ll honour their word, who won’t let people down in a crisis. I’m sure there’s a way of using this skill, in terms of business and career. But you’ve got to have confidence in yourself, and you must believe that you’re the best – modesty and humility can be overrated virtues, particularly if you’re a Leo!
